I, mother of Manay Jalan studying in Senior J, wanted to express my feelings and thoughts for the teachers of Senior J and the special education team of teachers.

The academic year 20-21 has been tough on all of us. This was the year when education was most difficult as everything was new for kids, moms as well as teachers. We all were filled with fear that how will the education of kids be taken care of as we could see no end to COVID.

But gradually with such wonderful teachers, everything became smooth for moms as well as kids. I myself take webinars, so can only imagine the hard word that must be going behind each online class, preparing for PPTS, coordinating with each other for each session. Checking the home work, giving feedbacks for the same, then taking care of each child’s personal needs via phone or messages, everything along with managing home and health simultaneously . I thoroughly respect all the teachers for their hard work, I still remember once Meenakshi mams mother in law was not well and her son did vomit still she was there in class all smiling and attending kids like always. So must have happened with other teachers too am sure.

I want to extend special gratitude for the amount of cooperation extended in the case of Manay when he was not ready to sit in class or regarding his special education. The teachers and special education team have been there with us whenever needed and helped me improve on my child’s graph.

I have seen all the teachers dealing all the parents as well as kids how much ever annoying the person or situation might be with lots of patience , respect without loosing their calm. It’s very difficult I can bet on that.

This was the year when we moms were most engaged as part of education and we feel extremely safe to see kids in hands of such wonderful teachers.

Tutoring Coding at School

Coding is used in preschools to engage the brains and develop analytical as well as logical skills among children. In fact, even a study has proved that children improve their mental abilities when they start to code at a very young age. Recognizing this fact, we involved coding for our preschoolers since the very inception of the school.

Coding is generally referred to as the set of instructions written in a language understandable by the computer. Well, to everybody’s surprise, coding has several phases depending on the age, hence for preschoolers, is not taught on computers.

As a preschool, at Satellite School for Children, we teach coding fundamentals to our students. These fundamentals include the following topics:

Algorithm Basics: Under algorithm basics, we teach students to create right patterns using shapes, letters, numbers as well as pictures.
Critical thinking / Problem-Solving Skills: We show pictures and sequence to students in wrong, or misplaced sequence, where they must find out what is placed incorrectly in the sequence. Questions related to what pattern will complete a particular sequence are also asked to improve the skills among students.
Open-ended Question Answers: In such questions, the students are given a situation in the form of a picture or elsewise, regarding which, they are asked questions. The students need to think, analyze, and answer the given questions.
Story Building – Students are given a sequence of pictures of a story, which they need to observe and create a story of their own. This activity enhances their creative skills.
What’s missing? – Students may be given order in the form of pictures, number, or alphabets, where students need to find the missing element to complete the sequence.
Dice Games – We employ students in dice games using if-then-else conditions. This way, they learn counting, yet improving their math skills.
Memory Games – We have developed games where students view the pictures, remember them, and answer the questions related to the pictures shown. These games help develop observation, concentration, memory as well as concentration among children.
Match-the-match: We have built worksheets where students need to match using their logical skills. The matching can be to complete any picture or given in a form to recognize a changed picture.

Apart from teaching coding fundamentals at school, we also encourage students’ participation at national and international level certified exams such as LogIQids and provide worksheets for it. These exams help children have a total development of logical, analytical, and mental skills.

A lot of behavioural fluctuations are visible in your younger one as he is growing up, attain the right age for preschool, and even after he gets admitted to the primary school. Some behavioural traits may last longer, while others may diminish with proper guidance. These behavioural vacillations, if not treated on time, become the nature of your child. Hence it becomes essential to treat these in its developing stage.

Children act as they see. Ensure that you do not yell at anyone, at least in front of them. Also, start paying attention to their needs, make sure that you listen to them, and try to resolve their queries. Why does your child show Tantrums?

As soon as the child develops senses and starts recognizing things, he also gets exposed to a variety of emotions. In the learning stage, though they can understand everything said by parents, toddlers often tend to fail at explaining themselves. In the long run, frustrating by which they start to develop tantrums.

How to handle this behavior?

The foremost approach of dealing with such behavior of your child is to remain calm yourself. Yelling in response to such an attitude of your child will only worsen the situation. Hence, make sure that you stay calm and keep a lot of patience during the initial years of growth of your younger one. Talking and embracing your child in such cases works wonder for such behavior. Also, make your child feel how much you love him by making him comfortable in your arms.

Why is your child impatient?

During the developing stage of the brain, patience and delaying gratification are something that your toddler is still learning. About the age of 3-5 years, there is a big range in your child’s ability to wait, which further leads to impatient and impulsive behavior.

How to handle this behaviour?

You can explain patience well to your child by exemplifying it yourself. So, keep yourself patient to set an example for your child. You can also make him composed by diverting his attention and engaging him in some work. Moreover, get your child to play board games as these games help to teach patience by letting the players wait for their turn.

Why does your child say NO?

Toddlers tend to learn negative emotions and words the fastest. NO is, unfortunately, one of those words that children learn without even being taught. Since most of their actions end in a NO from parents, the children, too, become non-performers and quickly answer a NO for anything you say.

How to handle this behavior?

The Power of 3Ps that is, Praise, Praise, and Praise, is what will help you deal with such behavior of your child. So, whenever your child says NO, praise him and get the work done. With some children, the rule of reverse reactions works better. So, ask them to act when you do not want them to act and vice-versa.

Why does your child kick and bite?

Anything apart from a regular course may make the child irritated. Now, this behavior may also occur when the child is hungry, stressed, or tired. The lack of command over speaking makes it hard to explain themselves, which further makes them behave unacceptably. These include kicking, hitting, and biting as well. As the impulse to act violently is much stronger than intellectual understanding, even in adults, younger ones may still take time to learn.

How to handle this behavior?

It is not easy to handle this undetectable behavior of your child, but as a parent, it is you who must ensure that this aggressiveness ends soon. If your child acts in this manner in public, take them in private and make them calm. Once they get in order, narrate them the situation and explain the wrong behavior to them. Teach them to acknowledge their emotions and pass those emotions to you using phrases such as – I am hungry. Also, try to get them in a schedule and look for various sorts of stimulation.

The fear of crowd is prevalent to a very mere percentage of children. A crowded place is where they get exposed to a lot of noise, strangers as well as unfamiliar sights, thus getting all common fears in one place.

Crowd fear might be arduous to handle, but you need to make sure that you do not impose anything on your child. Let him take his time to overcome the fear else the situation might get worsened up. Even when out in malls or restaurants, children refrain from exploring those places as they occupy themselves in mobiles, hence missing to learn a lot of things.

Let your toddler be free to roam while eating. Make them devour food in the same way as our parents fed us. Do not appreciate it when they learn using the device. In fact, you give them a real learning experience by yourself reciting poems and narrating bedtime stories. If they are already addicted, slowly make them meet less with mobile phones and involve them in other activities. Also, try to make your usage less in front of them. Remember, once they enter the world of mobile phones, they will no more be interested in exploring the real world.
